Missouri State Guard Uniform Guidelines

Headgear:

 -Correctly constructed civilian hats, felt or straw. Limited mechanics/wheel caps. Must be a quality piece of headgear!


-NO KEPIS, FORAGE CAPS, OR OTHER     MILITARY HEADGEAR.

Outer Wear:

 -Civilian style sack coat, paletot, or frock, must be of common civilian style and color.

-Overshirts - These may be trimmed or untrimmed in a correct manor and color.

-Vests - Must be of a proper pattern, either single or double breasted, and of correct materials.

-Under shirts - Must be of common material and civilian pattern.


 

(COLORSCHEME)

We do not want to see too many overly bright patterns or colors on vest, jackets or trousers, keep the natural colorscheme in mind here.

(Yes, Red was a common color for overshirts and even caused some confusion between the opposing sides during the battle . We would like to see them spread out in the company though.)


Trousers

-Must be of correct material, common civilian pattern and construction. 

-Common materials were cotton, cotton wool/jean, cassimere, broadcloth, linen and corduroy. Subdued colors,  subdued plaids, no loud or tartan plaids.


-NO SKY BLUE MILITARY TROUSERS OR OBVIOUS CONFEDERATE TROUSERS

Footwear-

 -Civilian Bogans or Boots- Must be of proper construction and material.

-NO FEDERAL BROGANS

-Correct wool and cotton knitted socks - bring extra pairs, we'll be marching over 2 miles over the course of the event. 

Canteen

-Covered glass bottles, gourds, pre-war wooden drum style, kidney style canteen in tin or copper, screw top style, militia style drum in tin or copper.


*NO CS PATTERN CANTEENS

Haversacks/Carrying Food:

-Documented civilian style bags, pokes, field made bags, or none at all. 

-Correct materials are wool, carpeting, cotton, linen, ticking canvas.

-Bottom line, theres not a lot of mention of haversacks in the Missouri State Guard.


-NO FEDERAL TARRED HAVERSACKS, NO CS PATTERNED HAVERSACKS

Accoutraments:-*Each participant is required to bring at least 60-80 rounds, preferably in plain, not arsenal labeled wrapping, or loose in your bag.

-Civilian hunting/shot pouches, must be of correct material and construction.

Carrying your rounds in a shot bag/pouch is preferred. Also utilizing your pocket's will be acceptable. Powder horns/flasks may be carried if your weapon would have necessitated one.

-Militia style leathers - Only if your weapon is a musket.

-Federal captured leathers must remain extremely limited. Please reach out if this is all you have. These items must be in limited number. These items would of only been obtainable via scavanging the battlefield after Wilson Creek. 

*NO CONFEDERATE LEATHERS

Belts- Roller buckle, single or double billet, any period correct civilian type belt of proper material and construction, Militia style


*NO US OR CS BELTS BELT PLATES

Weapons-

 

-Civilian pattern shotgun's.

 -Small caliber rifle's

 -Fowlers or older model conversions are all acceptable.

-Flintlocks will be permitted.

-Side knives are encouraged.

-Limited civilian pattern sidearms and revolvers will be allowed, but are discouraged among the enlisted men.

-NO MILITARY WEAPONS NEWER THAN FLINTLOCKS, OLDER CONVERSIONS OR 42 SPRINGFIELDS. 

-MISSISSIPPI RIFLE'S Limited.


-ABSOLUTELY NO ENFIELDS, 61 SPRINGFIELDS, MODERN HAWKINS OR CONFEDERATE FIREARMS.

Blankets/Groundcloth's

 -Civilian pattern panel blankets, coverlets, and carpets are

encouraged or none at all.


Ground Cloth's- Should be of civilian pattern, oiled or painted, or simply a section of canvas. Participants are encouraged to opt for a blanket roll, either over the shoulder or hung from a strap.


*NO GRANDMA QUILTS, MODERN BOUND EDGES OR FED BLANKETS.
